How swiftly childhood passes
They are not little for very long
You watched them take their every step
And now you must let go
You must be strong

Stars on a ceiling and some photographs
Those memories ring true
Now they are coming of age
Taking big steps
Moving to the next stage
And most of what they do
They do it, without you

They used to need you for everything
Now that’s seen as interfering
But you’re still there when it falls apart
When someone breaks a heart
For every fresh step
For every false start

And now what’s left for us?
When the dust has settled
A fresh step, another new beginning
Another test of metal

Back to two instead of four
Not that they won’t be around anymore
It’s just different
It’s changed
