Lightning

My father walks in undiscovered countries
That I wish to exist
I want him to know
At least by this boy, he is missed

He once said that
The trouble I caused
It was just thunder
When I could be lightning

All I had to do
Was remember
Some things could be answered
Without fighting

Maybe it took too long
To know just what he meant
And I have regrets
Over the currency of chances I spent

But there are days I think I make him proud
Despite all those scars and all that fighting
When I light up someone else’s sky
With all my lightning

  1. Miranda Stone says:

What a beautiful tribute to your father.

  2. Love the title and I can feel the love in your words.

  3. Well written, Pete. I really like the contrast you have going in the second stanza. Very thoughtful poem.
