Confetti for the Unwed

Springs confetti never fell for us
That does not mean it wasn’t love
We were never just water under the bridge
My heart will always echo that kiss

Sometimes the timing is all wrong
Just one misplaced beat and the song is gone
There are truths that only my heart knows
Sometimes a winter frost kills the seeds we sow

Love is a strange language

In chloroform dreams
My heart aches beautifully
It’s the essence of you I need

In constrained words
I write to you often
But barren are my seeds

In metaphors and semaphore
I speak my strange language
I swear, you used to understand

I am twisted by loves blade
Caught and tortured
By uncontrollable demand

She is embedded deep
And though I ache
I don’t weep, I am not sure I can

Hi Res HSS Book Cover

Heart Shaped Sin

A heart
A small space
With a large perspective

Fickle or true
It is all that defines us
Everything for me, will always be you

This heart shaped sin
I am the boy on a string
Is it me or is it him

So I have finally found enough time to gather a collection of words together and format them in such a fashion that they might be called an Ebook. ‘Heart Shaped Sin’ is available at nearly all major online retailers including, Apple IBooks, Kobo, Barnes & Noble and SmashWords. (Where you can pick up a copy that is Kindle compatible).
There are plenty of examples of the kind of thing that I write on my blog so if you fancy a read of twenty five poems of dark love and bright hope then take a peak beyond the barriers of a very small payment.  🙂

Three wishes

I wish…
My heart would stop aching for you
It’s not as if these lips
Can speak the truth
Or repeat that kiss
I wish…
The world would stop reminding me
Of everything about you
All the things I miss
All the time we spent as two
I wish…
My mind would stop turning
It’s not as if answers can come
That time can recalibrate
Like the past can be undone

Do you wish?

Ocean Magic

I walk the darker paths
While she weaves darker arts
Whatever her hold is
She is what I want to breath

She tips her potions
Filling my oceans
Her rain
It can fall on me, let it fall on me

I am lost In the way she moves
She is a beautiful battle to lose
She is the flesh I want to press
Strip away my soul, strip away her dress

Maybe this magic is all mine
Maybe I never cross her mind
Could it be I fell through time
To drift along the seams, to be lost in dreams

The King of the Liars

Rain crashed against the window pane
But it didn’t really matter
He was wrapped in the safety
Of coffee shop warmth
Amongst favourite smells
Safe from sleepless hell’s
Just reading the kiss and tells
Scribbling down the ideas
That the fresh inked pages seed

He had once called himself
The king of the liars
And was reminded of the fact
Whilst he stirred his coffee
And the singer sang
‘To a writer the truth is no big deal’*
Truth of course has its absolutes
But most truths are hidden in the grey
Shrouded in the things we never say

Nobody had wanted his truth, not even him
Even if he had spoken it when it had really mattered
No one was listening
It was a silent death
In a small wood, next to a ploughed field
Amongst the dead leaves, in the dank dark
On a cold, damp, autumn day
And everything he had been since then
Well, that had been, an invention, a lie

He had reinvented himself a dozen times
Committed a number of crimes
It was how he managed to survive
As he struggled to find his worth
A worth he finally found in her
Her safe arms, her deep love
Her innocent and happy care free ways
But insecurity and his soulless truth
Made her hard to keep

She was not to know
He will always be
The boy that never sleeps
The boy with shields of lies
The man that rarely cries
And though he had once died
He was still just a youth
And if you are a lie
How do you know the truth?

He couldn’t help
But be the man that never was
Some things are just because.
Some one, or some thing, makes us a lie,
Causes us to die
But of course even for him
‘Life goes on’*
It was just not the one
He was born to live

*L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. – Noah and the Whale

It seems apt that I should publish this in the week that one of my favourite bands announced that they are no more. ‘The King Of The Liars’ has been kicking about in my mind in one way or another for over a year. A poem/song that is in the past, future and present in the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee. Yet, though the idea was good and the raw emotions were there bubbling below the surface as they always are, it was the words of someone else that hit a chord and tied it all together. Love and other old addictions

There is no glamour in the cigarettes
That I still struggle to resist
Just another longing tug
For a former addict

I hunger for a familiar taste
Like I hunger for your lips
But I can resist desire
I know my time, and place

It’s hard to be the past
It’s hard to be disgraced
To know I’ll never brush away your hair
As it falls across your face

But I have my memories
I cling to them each and every day
I can be the boy that never was
The one that ran away

This heart knows you,
It loves the songs you make it sing,
This soul yearns for you,
And the joy that you might bring,

As Valentine’s is fast approaching I thought I would share these few words on the joy of love that I have never been willing to discard, but have failed to find a home for within a larger piece. Image created with Sketchbook Pro & Snapseed.

A blossoming thirst

It is a defining moment,
The perfect act of trust,
So easy to let it be a lesser thing,
Consumed by the fires of lust,

I breath you in,
You breath in me,
We close our eyes anticipating,
How good it might be,

We have danced this dance,
So innocently,
Longing to touch each other,
So decadently,
Brushing against certainties,
In the uncertainties of firsts.

But banked fires build,
And neither of us,
Dare to commit to that final move,
Afraid to lose what we have gained,

Denial is just kindling to the flame,
Should we, shouldn’t we?
The new game of love,
Or lovers that we play,

If it’s love, it will wait,
If it’s love, it will never be too late,
If it’s love, I can wait,
Your move…
