The flags of my heart

Today they fly at half mast

Thinking of a father

Getting lost in the past

You never let me down

You never judged or hated

You stuck around

A rock to cling to in a broken home

I turn to all those memories

That time try’s to steal

Holding on to small things

Those artefacts that keep you real

You came for me in those dark spaces

Your love was never judgmental or faithless

Although you are scattered dust long dissipated

If I need you my heart knows the places

So the flags of my heart

They may fly at half mast

But the chorus of my soul is written in your image

I hope you hear it singing

Confetti for the Unwed

Springs confetti never fell for us
That does not mean it wasn’t love
We were never just water under the bridge
My heart will always echo that kiss

Sometimes the timing is all wrong
Just one misplaced beat and the song is gone
There are truths that only my heart knows
Sometimes a winter frost kills the seeds we sow

Lost paths

In the wake of a storm
Some paths are lost
Banks will burst
And boats are tossed

The ebb and flow
The ripple and tug
We cling to each other
And hope it’s enough

It took me so long to realise
Too late to be wise
There are other days
And different skies
With the dawn comes the calm…

A Falling Stone

Your stone
Caused all these ripples
Of ever expanding waves of joy
Washing up on the shore of my soul

Your voice
Echoes warm and true
Filling me with resounding wonder
Amidst the emptiness of my existence

Your soul
In a certain light
I am sure I see it shining bright
It is like you, a beautiful thing to behold

Journey on… Bright lights and bad blood

My tale is sad
He said my blood is bad
I longed to prove him wrong

My past was dark
But that darkness it was never mine
Wrong place, wrong time

Swimming for the light
Running those dreams down
Even when others give you doubt

Journey on
Travel wide
Reach for blue skies

Love is a strange language

In chloroform dreams
My heart aches beautifully
It’s the essence of you I need

In constrained words
I write to you often
But barren are my seeds

In metaphors and semaphore
I speak my strange language
I swear, you used to understand

I am twisted by loves blade
Caught and tortured
By uncontrollable demand

She is embedded deep
And though I ache
I don’t weep, I am not sure I can

Heart Shaped Sin

A heart
A small space
With a large perspective

Fickle or true
It is all that defines us
Everything for me, will always be you

This heart shaped sin
I am the boy on a string
Is it me or is it him

So I have finally found enough time to gather a collection of words together and format them in such a fashion that they might be called an Ebook. ‘Heart Shaped Sin’ is available at nearly all major online retailers including, Apple IBooks, Kobo, Barnes & Noble and SmashWords. (Where you can pick up a copy that is Kindle compatible).
There are plenty of examples of the kind of thing that I write on my blog so if you fancy a read of twenty five poems of dark love and bright hope then take a peak beyond the barriers of a very small payment.  🙂

Fallen

Another thread is cut
Like scissors shearing cloth
All that binds is falling
It can’t be stopped

So little holds us together
A constant emptying of forever
Washing away upon the tide
A moon upon the slide

Celluloid burning memories
Those eyes that no longer see
Spinning sounds, thrashing art
Words so rarely bleed

But your words bled for me
Echoing wants and needs
Filling moments when it rained
In the darkness of my pain

Christmas Kisses

You looked good in that blue dress
It reminded me of Christmas kisses
And shared wishes
That somehow got lost for us

Your smile takes me back
Miles and years
To a time
When you washed away my fears

All those perfect moments
I keep them in my heart
You were a new kind of happiness
A new start on a healing path

I miss the tangle of your tresses
And that pillow talk smile
That fearless kindness
The light you shone on me for a while

The brightest light of any love
But I was so scared
Of the shadows that I cast
I was still chained by things I hid in the past

I had been a shadow before
For way too long
It was nothing you did wrong
My belief was so thin
That shadows just weren’t my thing

But you were…
A wisdom that came too late
A seed that took too long to germinate
A lost friend, a cruel fate

A Christmas give away

He thinks she would laugh
With shock and horror
At the Christmas gift
He chose to never give

Casual words
Are dangerous things
Who can tell
What insecurities they can bring

So how do you slip
So easily
From a man on the verge
To words never spoken, never heard

He still can not say
Some words never find their way
Some secrets
Are only for the grave

Those damaging voices
Those limited choices
Callow with youth
Someone else’s truth

His mouth moved, but found only lies to say
Presents wrapped so carefully
Disposed of so creatively
From Christmas Eve to Boxing Day

A Christmas give away…
